The Best Restaurants In Vancouver

We all love food and I’m not going to lie, I am pretty biased. I’ll always opt for international over American cuisine and not a single fast food restaurant is going to make this list. However, here’s a list of great restaurants in our area that you should check out:

For Breakfast:

Omy’s Cafe:Photo of Hashbrowns, gravy, eggs on plate

Bypass Shari’s, speed away from IHOP, and don’t go near Denny’s. The best place in town to get some traditional breakfast is a little hole in the wall place called Omy’s (pronounced Oh-mees). Omy’s doesn’t look like much, but it definitely gives off the homey diner vibe. They have a wrap around bar, traditional seating for families, an assortment of cute coffee mugs and giant utensils on the wall. Their food is awesome. My personal favorite is their french toast, sporting lots of powdered sugar, thick fluffy bread and warm syrup. Their omelets, pancakes, hash browns, eggs, biscuits and gravy, are all great too. If you’re really hungry try Omy’s Platter: bacon, ham sausage, grilled peppers, tomato, onion mixed with hash browns and cheese topped with country gravy and two eggs cooked to your specifications. It comes with a side of toast if you’re still hungry.

Lunch and Dinner

Burger Bungalow:Photo of bacon cheeseburger with fries

I’m not going to lie this place can be expensive which is why I’m nominating is as one of the best splurges you can make. For you meat lovers their burgers are made from organic, free range beef. For you vegetarians, you’ll be happy to know that they use spicy black bean patties instead of the traditional gooey rice and onion mess you get at other restaurants. My personal favorite is their mechanical bull burger. Homemade root beer BBQ sauce, topped on crunchy onion straws, pepper jack cheese, bacon and the usual burger getup. I order it vegetarian and it’s still freaking amazing. If you’re feeling really adventurous then try the Shut Yo Mouth burger. This crazy contraption is so spicy they have you sign a release before they serve it.

Twilight Pizza:Photo of Pizza

While I don’t want to admit to liking anything Twilight related this place is awesome. Awesome burgers, salads, desserts and of course pizza. Why is their pizza so amazing? Because they make it fresh on the spot. Unfortunately most other places, including Pizzicato, remake their pizza and then freeze them. It’s not a bad practice but there is nothing better than everything being piled together on the spot and then baked up just for you. The downside to this setup is that it does take a half hour to get your food. Ordering one of their delicious salads as an appetizer is a good idea. Let me tell you something, they do not go easy on the toppings so you are definitely getting your money’s worth. Additionally their crust is thick, fluffy and warm.

Mio Sushi:

They have all the traditional sushi fare, but if you want to try something new get the Coco Roll. Also if you’re vegetarian they have a variety of vegetarian rolls. There is no conveyor belt. Your sushi is made fresh and brought straight to you.

Thai Terrace:Photo of Interior of Thai Terrace

Pad Thai, Curry, and their Thai salads are all delicious. This place may be a hole in the wall, but the ambiance and service is great. Order an ice or hot Thai tea with your meal. For what you get the pricing is not bad at all.

Jerusalem Cafe:Photo of Med. Food

One of my personal favorites. For meat lovers this is a great place to get juicy lamb, spicy grilled chicken, presented either has kebabs or a gyro. For vegetarians or vegans its even better. Their Mezza platter is huge: hummus, tahini, babaganoush, red and white pickled cabbage, tabouli salad, falafel and a basket of pita. Order a Turkish coffee or Arabic tea to drink and end it all with a sweet, crunchy piece of baklava.

Petra House:

Photo of Med FoodPetra house is new to the area but they have some great things going for them. Just like Jerusalem Cafe they serve Mediterranean food, what makes them different is their ambiance and freshly baked pita. For starters, customers have the option of sitting at a booth, table or traditional cushioned flood seating with a beautiful metal tray for a table. The traditional seating can be closed off with curtains if you want a more romantic setup. For the full experience go ahead and let the waitresses wash your hands, which is a traditional part of Jordanian culture.

Photo of Indian FoodHands down this is one of the best places to get Indian food. The pricing is very good when you look at how much food you’re getting. This restaurant is carnivore, vegetarian and vegan friendly. They have great dinner deals that include appetizer, main course and dessert.

Definitely pop one of these restaurants into your GPS and try them out tonight! You won’t be disappointed.
